One man's experience with multiple myeloma

Day 1 of 9 with no cytotoxics or steroids

Had read about the utility of ginger in food and as a supplement to help out with low grade nausea and general stomach complaints.  Kathleen and I picked some up while shopping.  Tried the capsules with some ginger snaps in the afternoon, and after a nap, felt much better.

One good thing is that the peripheral neuropathy has not shown up at all recently.

Have an appointment scheduled with Warren on Wednesday, July 11.  Will review all these side-effect issues with him then.

Day 12 of dosing Cycle 4 (the last)

Went to work.  Energy levels not up to par.  Left early at 3:30 pm to come home to nap.  Felt quite bloated and nauseous this evening.

Dosing day 11 of Cycle 4

Again, I did not take notes of this dosing day.  Received Velcade at Lynn Cancer Center.  Came home and had a 2-1/2 hour nap.  Constipation relieved today.

Happy Birthday, America!

Day 10 of Cycle 4

Felt quite good all day.  Kathleen and I went to the Sawgrass Recreation Center to get an air boat ride to see alligators in the wild.  Then we took the tour through the animal exhibit.

Day 8 of Cycle 4

The trifecta of dosing days:  cyclophosphamide (Cytoxin), bortezomib (Velcade) and zoledronic acid (Zometa).  I did not take notes on all the details, but came home and had a nap.

Later that evening, Kathleen and I went to a myeloma support group meeting.  It was very helpful to hear of other’s success stories and to learn more about options that I can choose in the future, such as stem cell transplantation.

Started to feel better.

Day 7 of Cycle 4

Kathleen and I went to the Chapel of St. Andrew for the healing service.

Felt tired and bloated again this afternoon and evening.  Constipation issues.
